Rory McIlroy overcame a strange incident at the BMW PGA Championship where the head of his 9-iron detached, still managing to shoot a 5-under 67.
McIlroy expressed a surreal experience after losing the weight of his 9-iron, saying, "It was a bit of a weird feeling. Obviously you're expecting the weight of the club to just pull through and there was nothing there."
Despite a strong performance with seven birdies, McIlroy's final hole out-of-bounds bogey cost him a chance to share the lead.
After a runner-up finish at the Irish Open, McIlroy noted that having a tournament immediately afterward helped him focus to overcome disappointment.
