Pregnant mom, husband drown on Hawaii trip, leaving behind young child
Briefly

On September 14, a tragic snorkeling accident in Maui resulted in the drowning of Ilya and Sophia Tsaruk, a young couple from Washington, leaving behind their toddler.
Authorities stated that the Tsaruks were vacationing in Hawaii and snorkeling in the Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve, which is known for its coral reefs but has no lifeguard.
Dan Dennison of the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources highlighted the challenges of entering the ocean in the area due to its rocky coastline and emphasized the importance of not snorkeling alone.
The Maui County Fire Department confirmed that despite efforts to revive both individuals, Sophia was initially unresponsive and CPR failed to resuscitate either of them.
