Jakob Omrzel, an 18-year-old Slovenian cycling talent, suffered a serious crash early in the Giro della Lunigiana and required resuscitation before being stabilized at a La Spezia hospital.
The crash's dynamics are still under investigation as Omrzel's collision with a motorbike outrider led to his hospitalization alongside Italian rider Jacopo Sasso and a signalman.
His coach Nace Korosec confirmed to local media that Omrzel's condition is now stable, though the accident's cause remains unclear as stage 2 was canceled due to safety issues.
Giro della Lunigiana is critical for spotting future cycling stars, having previously spotlighted talents like Tadej Pogačar and Remco Evenepoel, but faced safety issues after the rain-soaked crash.
