Norway has reported dozens of confirmed and suspected cases of bluetongue for the first time since 2009, as the virus resurges in Europe.
The Norwegian Veterinary Institute confirmed that bluetongue serotype 3 was detected in southern Norway, attributing the outbreak to warm weather conditions.
Affected livestock exhibit worrying symptoms such as high fever, mouth ulcers, and notably a blue coloration of the tongue due to cyanosis.
Vaccination efforts are seen in neighboring countries, where outbreaks have led to protective measures in zoos and animal parks to control the virus.
