Nipah virus, commonly found in fruit bats, poses a threat due to its transmission to humans and animals. The virus triggers encephalitis, leading to varying degrees of illness and even death.
The virus can be transmitted through contact with contaminated saliva and urine of fruit bats, as seen in the 2018 Kerala outbreak. Human-to-human spread is also a concern.
