New LUNA facility will prepare astronauts for moon landings DW 09/25/2024
Briefly

"The LUNA facility symbolizes the conditions on the lunar surface and prepares astronauts for the moon," said Josef Aschbacher, ESA director general, highlighting its importance for training astronauts from various space agencies.
"We have about 900 tonnes of regolith simulating material in the facility to simulate the dusty environment and mobility on the surface," explained Juergen Schlutz, emphasizing the facility's realistic mimicry of the lunar environment.
"They will allow testing of the ability to move in one sixth gravity conditions, like astronauts would have to on the moon," noted Schlutz, focusing on the unique features designed for astronaut training.
The LUNA facility will provide a testbed for operating robotic systems, scientific activities and energy systems, aiming to solve challenges posed by moon dust on equipment used during lunar missions.
