Microplastics may confuse bees and other insects, hurting pollination
Briefly

Honey bees, crucial for pollinating crops, are significantly affected by microplastic pollution, which muddles their memory and affects their ability to locate nectar. This environmental issue also impacts other pollinators like bumble bees. Microplastics, originating from common products, can harm bee health by damaging their guts and brains, leading to impaired learning and memory, which are vital for nectar foraging. The accumulation of microplastics also poses a physical threat to flowers, potentially clogging their reproductive structures, exacerbating the already existing pressures faced by pollinators.
If plastic is adding to all the stressors that pollinators are facing already, I think we really might be in a tricky position.
Recent studies have shown that tiny pieces of plastics can make bees more susceptible to bacteria and viruses.
