Meet Earth's New Mini Moon
Briefly

The small asteroid 2024 PT5 will become a temporary satellite of Earth in September, entering a mini moon orbit before returning to deep space by November.
This 10-meter-wide asteroid was first spotted in August, and its trajectory will allow it to be pulled into Earth's gravity, marking a celestial rarity.
Despite becoming a mini moon, 2024 PT5 won’t complete a full orbit around Earth, showcasing the transient nature of such astronomical phenomena.
Although it’s an interesting event, 2024 PT5 would be too small and dim to be seen with regular backyard telescopes, limiting public visibility.
