Life returns to Ukrainian reservoir drained by Russian strike on dam
Briefly

Standing in a scene of shimmering green, ecologist Vadym Maniuk showcased the miraculous growth of white willows, black poplars, reeds, and mulberries in what used to be the Kakhovka reservoir, now transformed into a forest.
The area was previously submerged under a reservoir created during the Soviet era for hydroelectric power, which resulted in the loss of ancient Cossack sites, gardens, and pastures. The reservoir transformed into a frontline during Ukraine's conflict with Russia, culminating in a tragic intentional explosion.
Following a destructive explosion by Moscow in 2023, the reservoir was left devastated. However, Vadym Maniuk's efforts have led to the emergence of a vibrant forest with rapidly growing trees, making it a unique and unparalleled ecosystem on the planet.
