Typhoon Shanshan made landfall on Kyushu, bringing torrential rains and high winds, which have caused significant damages, including injuries and fatalities from flooding and flying debris.
Over four million people were advised to evacuate while only about 30,000 had actually moved to safety. The authorities issued the highest alerts in some areas amidst severe weather conditions.
The Japanese Meteorological Agency reported record rainfall in parts of Kyushu, affecting transportation severely, with hundreds of flight cancellations and train services halted.
As the typhoon continued its path, significant disruption was caused not only in transportation but also in factory operations, particularly in the automotive and semiconductor sectors.
