JAXA has declared the SLIM mission a success despite its sideways landing and subsequent challenges, having collected crucial data and surviving three lunar nights.
The Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) demonstrated advanced autonomous landing technology by achieving a touchdown just ten meters from its target, marking a significant milestone for JAXA.
Despite its initial troubles, including poor solar energy collection because of its orientation, SLIM managed to transmit valuable images and data back to Earth, exceeding expectations.
Surviving lunar nights was a highlight for SLIM, which JAXA initially doubted could happen. Each time it awoke, it provided more research material and photos.
