The gigantic sunspot cluster AR3664, now AR3697, reappeared and is expected to bring stormy space weather after unleashing considerable solar activity.
Merging with another active region, AR3664 transformed into a larger cluster, increasing the likelihood of intense flares according to NASA heliophysicist Madhulika Guhathakurta.
AR3664's record-breaking 65 M- and X-class flares in May, ranking 4th since 1976, along with the potential for successive X-class flares, highlight its uniqueness and significance.
