"If you travel roughly 250 meters away from the starting lifepod in Subnautica 2, you'll encounter a new biome that looks like an underwater desert. While you might be tempted to explore this biome, you'll get a message from your PDA that tells you to stop immediately. This biome has an extremely high temperature, and you'll receive a heat warning as soon as you get too close to it."
"Normally, the waters around the lifepod in Subnautica 2 are roughly 20 degrees Celsius. However, when you start to approach the hotter biome on the map, you'll see a red half-circle with a temperature above it that reads anywhere from 30 to 80 degrees. By default in Subnautica 2, your character can't withstand temperatures over 80 degrees, but even from 30-70 degrees, you'll start to take damage the longer you stay in these hotter waters."
"Fortunately, there's an easy fix so you can explore this biome as freely as you want. All you need is the Heat Tolerance Adaptation, which lets you roam in waters as hot as 100 degrees. The high-temperature biome does feature temperatures above that threshold, but the Heat Tolerance Adaptation allows you to survive those temperatures for longer without taking fatal damage."
"Just like the other three Adaptations in Subnautica 2, you can acquire Heat Tolerance by interacting with an Angel Comb, which equips you with a new genetic mutation to survive better on Proteus. However, in order to unlock Heat Tolerance, you need to interact with a specific Angel Comb, which is accessible after treating certain Bloom infestations around the map."
Waters near the lifepod are around 20°C, but approaching a nearby high-temperature biome triggers PDA warnings and heat damage. A red temperature indicator can show values from roughly 30°C to 80°C, and staying in these waters causes damage over time. The Heat Tolerance Adaptation allows roaming in hotter water, surviving temperatures up to about 100°C for longer and reducing fatal damage risk. The adaptation is obtained by interacting with an Angel Comb that grants a genetic mutation for Proteus. Access to the required Angel Comb depends on curing specific Bloom infestations around the map, which must be unlocked before Heat Tolerance can be obtained.
