How Dangerous Is the Seine for Olympic Athletes?
Briefly

As iconic as the Seine is, with its picturesque vantage points of city landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Musee d'Orsay, it's also a contaminated body of water.
Engineers built a tank under the Seine to hold stormwater, gradually treating it and flowing clean water back. Sewage pipe upgrades aim to limit contamination.
Despite efforts, unsafe bacteria levels, influenced by weather and river conditions, were found in the Seine. Weekly reports showed varying water acceptability during prior testing.
Paris officials, including mayor Anne Hidalgo and committee president Tony Estanguet, demonstrated confidence in Seine's cleanliness by swimming in it temporarily during the Olympics.
