The Barbary macaque's escape from Salem Monkey Mountain has raised concerns, as this species is critically endangered with fewer than 8,000 remaining in the wild.
Park manager Roland Hilgartner noted that 'no animal has ever been this far away' from the wildlife park in his 17 years of experience.
Despite the escape, Hilgartner believes the macaque could survive outside the park due to the availability of food and a natural habitat.
The wildlife park emphasizes their commitment to protecting the Barbary macaques, with fewer than 8000 of these animals left in the wild.
