Flooding and landslides in central Japan have resulted in one death and at least 11 missing, with heavy rains causing extensive damage and power outages.
After more than 540 millimeters of rain fell in a short period, roads were blocked, homes without power, and many residents ordered to evacuate due to ongoing hazards.
The national weather agency keeps warnings active as the region recovers from a devastating earthquake earlier this year, leading to an intertwined disaster situation.
Evacuations have affected over 127,000 residents across the Ishikawa, Niigata, and Yamagata prefectures as floodwaters also submerged temporary shelters for those displaced by a previous disaster.
