As we navigated through New York Harbor, the stress of our journey became palpable. The engine thumping created an atmosphere of tension that came with the task of owning an older boat.
Despite knowing about the exhaust problem, we faced several setbacks. The initial mechanic couldn’t do the job, and when a replacement arrived, he was unprepared, complicating our plans further.
Our hopes of a smooth journey were quickly dimmed as the boat's interior revealed the consequences of motoring with a soot-filled engine. Cleaning became a continuous chore amidst our excitement.
Choosing the inside route for our maiden voyage felt wiser, given the unfamiliarity with the boat. It was an essential learning curve, albeit complicated by the engine issues.
