First German woman in space on SpaceX polar orbit mission DW 04/01/2025

On April 1, 2025, Rabea Rogge achieved a historic milestone as the first German woman to journey into space aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon rocket. This landmark flight was part of the Fram2 mission, the inaugural crewed mission to travel directly over Earth's polar regions. Launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center, the mission will conduct several significant experiments, including human X-ray imaging in space and mushroom cultivation in microgravity, while also aiming to assess astronauts' post-spaceflight capabilities. The crew's pioneering spirit mirrors that of early polar explorers.
"With the same pioneering spirit as early polar explorers, we aim to bring back new data and knowledge to advance the long-term goals of space exploration," mission commander Chun Wang said before the launch.
"The mission will orbit Earth from pole to pole, a trajectory in which no humans have traveled before," noted SpaceX’s livestream during the historic launch.
