Roy Harris and his partner Caroline Wilson were sailing back to the River Crouch from Kent when a sudden storm caused their yacht to take on water.
The Essex Police Marine Unit, assisted by the Dover Coastguard, rescued the stranded sailors after their yacht became damaged and sent a PAN-PAN distress message.
Despite the conditions, the Marine Unit successfully navigated rough seas for over two hours to reach the vulnerable sailors, a journey that typically takes 45 minutes.
Sergeant Alex Southgate and his team demonstrated effective collaboration and quick response in a high-pressure situation, ensuring the safety of those aboard the distressed yacht.
