"When we spot something like that - we don't know what it is and never seen anything like it before - it's always exciting," said MBARI senior scientist Bruce Robison. "With a voluminous hooded structure at one end, a flat tail fringed with numerous finger-like projections at the other, and colorful internal organs in between, the team initially struggled to place this animal in a group," explains a news release. "We can't go down there and reliably find one every time we want to find one," Robison stated. "There are times [where] we went a year without seeing a specimen."
