Botswana unearths world's second-largest diamond DW 08/22/2024
Briefly

"We are ecstatic about the recovery of this extraordinary 2,492-carat diamond," Lucara President William Lamb said. "This find not only showcases the remarkable potential of our Karowe Mine, but also upholds our strategic investment in cutting-edge [X-Ray Transmission] technology."
Tobias Kormind, managing director of 77 Diamonds, noted that with new technology, "we will likely see more where this came from" in the future of diamond recovery.
Lucara's advanced Mega Diamond Recovery X-Ray Transmission technology allows for identifying large stones before extraction, avoiding damage, which was previously common in the industry.
While Lucara did not estimate the diamond's value, it emphasized that this 2,492-carat stone is among the largest rough diamonds ever unearthed.
