"I've never seen so many people homeless as what I have right now," said Janalea England of Steinhatchee, Florida, describing her commercial fish market turned donation site for devastated locals.
"Looks like a bomb went off," said Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp after surveying the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Helene from the air.
"To say this caught us off guard would be an understatement," said Quentin Miller, the county sheriff, reflecting on the severity of the storm's impact.
Resident Mario Moraga described the destruction in Asheville as "heartbreaking," with neighbors actively helping each other amid the disaster.
