Ancient bones shed new light on debate over origins of syphilis

The recent discovery of ancient DNA from skeletons in the Americas strongly supports the theory that syphilis originated there and was present before Columbus's voyage.
Dr. Kirsten Bos explained, "We were able to reconstruct five genomes from these bones... that are sister lineages to the modern strains... and they all appear to have emerged in the Americas."
