A volcano in southwestern Iceland erupted for the sixth time since December, creating a fissure on the Reykjanes Peninsula, but the impact remains localized with no threats to population.
Halldor Bjornsson reported that, unlike previous eruptions, the lava flow is not directed towards the town of Grindavik, which had been evacuated during past eruptions.
Geophysicist Magnus Tuma Gumundsson stated that current eruption activity is unlikely to endanger Grindavik, as it appears to have reached its peak and may soon subside.
