Two meteor showers, Southern Delta Aquarids and Alpha Capricornids, will peak this week along with the building Perseids on August 11. Dust and tiny rock bits will patter against the upper atmosphere.
Southern Delta Aquarids peak on July 29-30, visible from southern US to tropical latitudes. Meteor fragments are ancient dust from Comet 96P/Machholz, breaking free 20,000 years ago.
Alpha Capricornids peak on July 30-31. These meteors are remnants of Comet 169P/NEAT's collapse around 4,000 years ago. Debris cloud evolution implies a significant event by the 23rd century.
