Mark Nebel, once fulfilled in his role at the National Park Service overseeing the Grand Canyon's geological programs, resigned early after facing debilitating changes under the Trump administration. The Department of Government Efficiency's influence led to operational constraints, preventing meaningful collaborations and essential work, particularly regarding climate change discussions. Faced with emotional stress and a diminishing capacity to serve the public effectively, Nebel made the difficult choice to retire to preserve his well-being, concluding a dedicated 15-year career with deep disappointment.
It was incredibly difficult and heartbreaking, he says. But I was tired of being manipulated, humiliated and unable to do the work that I was hired to do for the American people.
Nebel says his program... became hamstrung. They made it impossible to do agreements with outside organizations, uphold contracts, purchase the tools we needed or send samples out to a lab for analysis.
