This is the first Goodwill store to operate inside a prison
Briefly

The Goodwill store at Elmwood Facility is an innovative initiative supporting incarcerated women in re-entering society, offering job training and clothing. Opened in October 2024, this store caters to women preparing for release by allowing them to gain work experience while shopping for clothes as they transition back to freedom. With traditional support lacking, the program aims to address significant unemployment post-release, equipping participants with skills, dignity, and a smoother reintegration process. Over six hundred women are incarcerated at Elmwood, and the store operates three days a week, allowing eight women to work at a time.
It builds skills, it builds competence, it builds dignity, it prepares people, and it gives them a smoother path when they leave.
