In New Boston, Michigan, a special education teacher named Jackie Dennis collaborated with her students at Huron High School to create comfort blankets for families of organ donors. After receiving a double lung transplant due to her health issues following childbirth, Dennis formed a profound bond with her donor's family. She expressed gratitude for the new lease on life and the opportunity to share her journey with her donor’s family, highlighting the emotional impact of organ donations. The project served as a meaningful way for students to understand and honor the sacrifices made by donor families.
"I'm lucky enough to have such a good relationship that I can send pictures of my daughter, I can send pictures of what my students are doing and I get to show her the impact her daughter has had on me and her little sisters get to see that, and it's so beautiful."
"It's so important, and I don't think that they may ever know how big an impact it is," Dennis said.
