"Multiple fastballs, multiple breaking balls. Some of us [scouts] will say of a guy he has a quiet body, fast arm, and he has it. First outing against what's close to their Opening Day lineup . . . pretty good. He was under control, hit both sides of the plate."
"Wouldn't be surprised if you see both of them in the big leagues at some point this season,"
Opposing major-league scouts overwhelmingly judge Yankees prospects Elmer Rodriguez and Carlos Lagrange as legitimately high-level talents likely to reach the majors soon. Rodriguez, 22, is 6-foot-3, 160 pounds, a 2021 fourth-round pick who was traded from Boston in December 2024 and will pitch for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic. Rodriguez impressed in bullpen sessions, live batting practice, and allowed three hits with one strikeout across three scoreless innings against the Orioles. Evaluators praised his multiple fastballs and breaking balls, quiet delivery, fast arm, command, and ability to work both sides of the plate.
