The Yankees have announced that outfielder Duke Ellis went unclaimed on waivers and will remain in the minors. At 26, he has potential as a depth option.
Ellis, who has a career .237 average in the minors but offers speed and versatility in the outfield, will return to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
After playing for the Yankees and several other teams this season, including the White Sox, Ellis managed only one hit in five at-bats in the majors.
Even with a lackluster batting line, Ellis remains a candidate for a major league roster spot as a speed option and depth player.
