Yankees 10, Tigers 2: Three-homer first sets tone
Briefly

The New York Yankees experienced a challenging period with pitcher Gerrit Cole possibly facing Tommy John surgery. In response, Will Warren's performance against the Tigers became critical, although he lacked the sharpness shown in previous outings. Yankees hitters aggressively attacked Kenta Maeda's first pitches, highlighted by home runs from Austin Wells, Paul Goldschmidt, and Trent Grisham. The team initially led 3-0, but allowed two runs through a defensive error and a double by Gleyber Torres. Nonetheless, the lineup rebounded strongly, ultimately leading to a decisive 10-2 victory.
Newly-minted leadoff hitter Austin Wells continues to impress from atop the lineup. He unloaded on Kenta Maeda's first pitch of the game, depositing it just over the wall in right for a leadoff bomb.
There was a clear focus by Yankees hitters to attack a first-pitch heater from Maeda in the zone, and they rode it to a 3-0 first inning lead.
Will Warren didn't have quite the same swing-and-miss stuff of his first three outings, but he was able to get early outs in a different fashion including a 1-2-3 second on just five pitches.
