The Yankees and the Luis Gil dilemma
Briefly

The 25-year-old has a 2.51 ERA in eight starts this year, probably the best surprise the Yankees have enjoyed in the season's early days.
The issue with Gil is his projected usage and the fact that he's already thrown more innings in 2024 than his entire MLB career before this season - 43 compared to 31.1 across 2021-22.
Coming off of Tommy John surgery, the Yankees are going to be cautious with his time on the mound, but how do you not give the guy the ball every fifth day?
Gerrit Cole returning sometime in June will help the Yankees manage some of this risk. He's unlikely to immediately turn on a 200-inning pace, but even a slightly-innings-limited Cole opens up some freedom to skip one of Gil's starts or have him used as a three-inning reliever.
