The emotions of World Series anticipation
Briefly

This past week could not have been better for Yankees fans. The Yankees closed out their series against the Guardians on Saturday, giving us the time to marvel at the heroics of Giancarlo Stanton and Juan Soto in Game 5 of the ALCS. As the Yankees awaited their opponent, fans were left to fully take in this moment, knowing that the World Series was right around the corner, but with the games far enough away to appreciate everything the ALCS had to offer.
However, with each passing day, that easy feeling has been replaced with a building anxiety. This anxiety stems from the realization that you have waited so long for this moment, and now that it is here, you have to face the reality that this joy can either be added to or snatched away. You cannot help but let your mind wander back, trying to remember what those other championships felt like.
The Yankees are so close to that moment, but you're scared to think that far ahead. You're afraid because there are two clear outcomes, and given enough time, the fear of losing can have a stronghold on your thoughts. The Yankees can't lose, right? That pit in your stomach, where that self-doubt creeps into the fabric of your fandom as the letdowns of the past 15 years bring you back to a time of angst.
