Donnie Baseball was an all-around star for the Yankees, in a tenure that was mostly filled with disappointment for the team as a whole.
Mattingly attended Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, and stood out among the competition as a three-sport athlete. He starred on the football field and the basketball court, but it would become more and more evident that he was destined for greatness on the diamond.
