Poteet got the call to start one of the two games and did a terrific job helping lead the Yanks to an 8-2 win. The sinkerballer needed only 77 pitches to cover six innings of one-run ball without allowing a walk.
Despite his solid performance, it remains to be seen whether Poteet will be able to absorb this role for a longer stretch. The Yankees will be without Schmidt for a while due to injury.
