The Braves opened the scoring early when Olson reached on a hard-hit single and later scored, followed by Harris driving a ball to center that nearly produced more runs before a spectacular backward catch. Strider began strong with early strikeouts and later focused on inducing groundouts, recording a one-two-three inning in the second and working through traffic in the third. The Cubs managed baserunners but failed to capitalize on steals and productive swings. Sukuki was able to get on with a single and then stole second base, but Strider kept his composure and got Happ to groundout to Albies to end the inning. In the second inning Alvarez grounded out, but Fraley walked.
