Gerrit Cole referred to Rafael Devers as the most challenging Latin player he'd faced, acknowledging the strategy of intentionally walking him to avoid a mismatch.
Cole explained the decision to walk Devers was based on his past performance against him, but admitted, "evidently, the plan didn't work. I need to make better pitches afterward in order for it to work."
In hindsight, Cole viewed the intentional walk as a mistake, stating, "Clearly that was a mistake. I think I was bought into the plan going into it, but afterward it was the wrong move."
