Devils' Hughes lost for season following surgery
Briefly

Jack Hughes, a leading player for the New Jersey Devils, underwent season-ending shoulder surgery following an injury sustained during a game against the Vegas Golden Knights. The surgery, performed by Dr. Peter Millett, was deemed necessary after evaluations indicated serious concerns. Hughes, 23, was the team leader in goals and points, making his absence a significant hit to the Devils' playoff aspirations. Placed on long-term injured reserve, his salary cap space will be available ahead of the trade deadline. The Devils are currently struggling, losing ground in the playoff race.
Following a review of the imaging and subsequent conversations with Jack, his family, representatives, and the Devils' medical and athlete care staffs, it was determined that Jack would proceed with shoulder surgery.
Hughes is the team leader in goals (27) and is tied with Jesper Bratt with 70 points. He leads all Devils players in average ice time (20:54) per game.
