In a recent spring training game against the Astros, Tylor Megill pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs in the Mets' 5-0 loss. Despite the unfavorable stats, manager and team officials indicated that spring training performance won't dictate the starting rotation. Megill emphasized that his main goal was to work on his pitching techniques rather than worry about the immediate results, stating that while the outcomes weren't ideal, he was pleased with the execution of his pitches and his approach to attacking hitters.
All my pitches were working, obviously the results were a little different. But the main priority was just throwing strikes, attacking hitters, getting the ball in play.
The Mets also aren't going to choose a starting rotation to begin the season based on spring training ERA.
