Francisco Lindor of the Mets is the only player known to have used the torpedo bat this season, but he has struggled with it, going 0-for-11. Despite this, players like Pete Alonso are willing to experiment with it, suggesting that adjustments are necessary to keep up with high-level pitching. Previous success with the bat was seen among Yankees who hit 15 homers in three games, yet Alonso emphasizes that talent and skill, not just equipment, are vital for offensive success.
The only known member of the Mets to use the torpedo bat this season is Francisco Lindor. That fact alone should tell you the innovative bat isn't a panacea for a player - Lindor was 0-for-11 this season as Monday's play against the Marlins began. Even so, Mets players are open to experimentation.
Pete Alonso told The Post that he will probably place an order for torpedo bats just to see if they help him. 'With certain bat modifications and stuff now, guys are doing whatever they can to catch up with the pitching...'
Alonso also downplayed the idea the torpedo bats led directly to the Yankees' historic numbers against the Brewers. 'The Yankees had an offensive explosion, and they are a very talented offense and that can happen even if some of the guys weren't using the torpedo bat...'
Juan Soto said, 'I had teammates last year [with the Yankees] that asked me if I wanted to try it, but it never caught my attention. But, yeah, I would try it.'
