Francisco Alvarez of the New York Mets is heading to the injured list because of a right thumb injury sustained during a recent game against the Seattle Mariners. This injury occurred while he was having a strong performance, going 3-for-4. Prior to the injury, Alvarez had shown improvement, posting a .323 batting average and a 1.054 OPS after returning from a month in Triple-A. In his absence, Luis Torrens will take over catching duties. The Mets are currently struggling to maintain their playoff position.
