Brooklyn dad recently retired from NYPD dies with girlfriend in motorcycle crash
"Every time a cop would get shot in the area I would always check the news - to make sure that it wasn't my son,"
"I always was afraid."
"Only a mother and a father know what losing a son is,"
"He got his pension. He went to school for electricity to become an electrician,"
Retired NYPD officer Reinaldo Rodriguez, 42, and his girlfriend Mirella Vega, 42, died after Rodriguez crashed a new 2025 Harley-Davidson into the rear passenger side of a Mercedes-Benz SUV making a left turn off Atlantic Avenue onto Elton Street in Cypress Hills. The impact threw both from the motorcycle; Rodriguez died at the scene and Vega died shortly after at Brookdale University Hospital. Rodriguez joined the NYPD in 2004, retired from the 77th Precinct in March, had plans to become an electrician after collecting his pension, and loved traveling to Japan.
