Growing up a die-hard '90s NBA fan, the league was filled with popular superstars that wore #32. Shaq, Magic, 'The Mailman', Kevin McHale, Jason Kidd, and even Charles Barkley for one season, the list of superstars seemed endless.
Sure, Jerry Lucas is the best player to ever wear #32 for the Knicks, and X-Man might be the most popular pick for his tenacity and ferociousness à la Anthony Mason—but to me, #32 will always belong to Herb Williams.
If you were to look up Lucas's list of accomplishments as a professional basketball player, it would appear endless, and that's because it nearly is. Lucas was a 7x All-Star, and NBA and NCAA champion.
There was also something special about seeing #32, #33, and #34 listed sequentially on the roster sheets at games. It made #32 stand out even more, especially considering the big names that followed Herb's in your nightly program.
