St. John's might play even more games at Garden next season
"We have had a great partnership and relationship with them and, as you've seen this year and last year, [St. John's] sold out most games. We hope to be able to do more and they've expressed that interest. So if we're able to handle more games, based on our incredibly busy schedule, we will do more games."
"We were at 13 - 14 if you include the women's game [against No. 1 UConn] - and I've been throwing around the number 18 and would love 18, but if we can get to 16, I'd be happy with that step. Getting to 16 is definitely realistic."
"Every time I step onto that floor of Madison Square Garden, I'm emotional, excited, honored. I don't need to get [jazzed]. I am totally, totally enthralled with the Big East Tournament."
St. John's University played 13 dates at Madison Square Garden during the current season, including 12 regular-season games, marking the first time since the 1951-52 season the program achieved this volume. Both St. John's and Madison Square Garden are actively exploring expansion of their partnership for next season. Athletic director Ed Kull expressed interest in reaching 16 regular-season games, with aspirations toward 18 total dates. MSG executive vice president Joel Fisher confirmed the strong partnership, noting that St. John's has sold out most games and both parties are committed to increasing the number of contests if scheduling permits. Coach Rick Pitino, a New York native with deep connections to the Garden, expressed emotional attachment to playing at the iconic venue.
