Rep. Elise Stefanik says she's suspending her campaign for New York governor, won't seek reelection

"it is not an effective use of our time or your generous resources to spend the first half of next year in an unnecessary and protracted Republican primary, especially in a challenging state like New York."

Rep. Elise Stefanik suspended her campaign for New York governor and announced she will not seek reelection to Congress. She posted on X that it would not be an effective use of time or supporters' resources to spend the first half of next year in an unnecessary and protracted Republican primary in a challenging state like New York. Stefanik had been expected to face Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman in a bitter Republican primary to challenge Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul. State Republican Chairman Ed Cox respected her decision, thanked her, and endorsed Blakeman.
