They are coming for all of us': City Council rages against ICE after staffer detained while fighting for his release amNewYork
"They are not coming for just criminals. They're coming for all of us, all of us! We will not stand for it. ICE, get the f*ck out of this city!"
"'Tricia from Ohio,' is back to doing what she does best: gaslighting the American people,"
"Her statement that the staffer had no legal right to be in the United States' is a bald-faced lie."
Rafael Andres Rubio Bohorquez, a 53-year-old City Council data analyst, was detained by ICE during an immigration hearing in Bethpage. City Council Speaker Julie Menin announced the detention and the New York Legal Assistance Group filed paperwork to keep Bohorquez detained in New York. Menin and U.S. Rep. Dan Goldman said Bohorquez is being held in the state and a habeas petition was filed to prevent his removal pending court resolution. Menin stated Bohorquez had a clean criminal record. DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin claimed a past arrest and visa overstay, while council members noted Bohorquez held Temporary Protected Status and work authorization and condemned the detainment.
