Zohran Mamdani publicly discouraged Chi Osse from launching a primary challenge to House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, urging restraint and prioritization of an affordability agenda. Mamdani made the remarks during a Nov. 19 PIX11 interview two days after Osse filed paperwork to run. Osse recently joined the Democratic Socialists of America and had been a close ally and early supporter of Mamdani until a falling out over the prospective challenge. There is concern that a primary could undermine efforts to advance affordability initiatives. Mamdani secured Jeffries' endorsement during the mayoral race, and political commentators criticized the intra-left conflict as politics as usual.
