Sam Levine will lead the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection. Levine served as director of the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection from 2021 to 2025 under Lina Khan. The role includes combating wage theft, employee misclassification, labor abuse, and deceptive or predatory corporate practices, and protecting about 80,000 deliveristas. Levine previously worked as attorney adviser to FTC Commissioner Rohit Chopra and for the Illinois attorney general. Levine is a Harvard Law School graduate and brings experience targeting big tech, including actions involving GrubHub, Amazon, Meta, and TikTok. Levine's family has roots on the Lower East Side.
