""By every measure, this program has met or exceeded expectations: traffic and gridlock are down substantially, people are moving faster, air quality is improved, streets are safer and our economy is stronger.""
Gov. Hochul held a jubilant press conference to mark the one-year anniversary of congestion pricing and called the policy an unprecedented success. Reported outcomes include substantially reduced traffic and gridlock, faster travel, improved air quality, safer streets, and a stronger economy. Her tactics during the pause included meeting critics, claiming support from hotel caterers, and lobbying for a replacement tax. The toll was later reinstated at a lower price and she now publicly supports the program.
