Zdeno Chara, the former NY Islanders defenseman who retired in 2022, completed a half-Ironman at 48 years old with a remarkable time of 4:56:57. This impressive feat includes a 1.2 mile swim, a 13.1 mile run, and a 56 mile bike ride. Chara's time significantly outperformed the average for men in his age group. Since retirement, he has remained active by running marathons, including the Boston and London Marathons just days apart. Chara expressed his enjoyment of the endurance sports community and anticipates more challenges ahead.

Chara has stayed incredibly active, running multiple marathons, including last year's Boston Marathon and the London Marathon just six days later.

The average completion time for a male aged 45-49 is 6:25:59, meaning Chara smashed the average time by nearly an hour and a half.
